An Invitation to Innovate Together

The Open Innovation Toolkit is a community sourced set of practices and principles for incorporating human-centered design into your product development process.

It is a collection of easy-to-use, self-serve techniques and methods that are gathered from industry best practices of innovation.

This toolkit is an invitation to the wider open source community to keep building on and improving the innovation process for our open, distributed communities.

We encourage you to help us build a better understanding of what works in open collaborations and distributed networks by sharing your experiences and feedback.

Our Philosophy

Innovation is part of our DNA at Mozilla. It’s not just about making products that support the open web, but how we make those products — with a transparent, communicative and participatory approach.

This innovation toolkit is designed to equip everyone at Mozilla with a set of useful methods and best practices as we build services and products that support our mission.

We provide best practices and principles through three main steps: 1) gather insights, 2) ideate, and 3) prototype & test. Each activity includes pertinent information about purpose, outcome, time, number of people needed  any additional detailed steps required to execute the activity. Each method is based on industry best practices and so you will find reference articles to primary sources that the methods build on or use.

Our goal is not to reinvent the wheel but to create a collection that leverages existing industry learnings; in short we are standing on the shoulders of giants in creating this.

Please share your ideas, methods and examples to help build this collective resource.
